A dog friendly walk in Abergele
What is the Tower on Tower Hill in Abergele?
Although unravelling the tower's history proves challenging, as no one is really sure of its purpose, theories suggest it served as a watchtower during the 17th century, to diligently keeping an eye on the coast for incoming ships.
How do you get to the tower?
Our recommendation is to start from Gele Park & Playground (in case you're interested, Gele Park is a dog-friendly area where your dog can have a run and play; it has a lovely little brook passing through it).
Right next to the playground area, you'll find a pathway that takes you between some residential housing. Follow this path and keep going straight into what looks like a wooded pathway. Keep following this pathway straight.
You'll cross a stream, and as you keep walking between houses and farmland, you'll eventually come across a road. Walk left up here for a minute or two, and you'll come across a pathway on the right-hand side where you can begin to ascend upwards. From here, it should be pretty straightforward and easy to navigate.
Just keep following the upwards path from this point. As long as you keep following it, once you get to the top of the forest, you'll eventually come to a gated field that you can then walk through to get to the historical tower.
A scenic stopping point
As you ascend, take advantage of a main stopping point with a bench, offering breath taking views of the countryside, town, and sea. This scenic spot is well worth the walk, providing a perfect opportunity for you and your dog to savour the beauty of the surrounding area.
Dog-Friendly Forest
The forest on the way up is a fantastic place for your dog to be off-lead and explore. You'll likely meet other dog walkers here, and other dogs tend to be off-lead as well.
The Tower
Once you've reached the forest's summit, the historical tower can be found in an open field. Take time to explore the tower and don't forget to capture a photo op. Pause to absorb the historic ambiance with your four-legged friend. While entering the field, it's advisable to keep your dog on a lead as there may be wandering sheep. Or, in the case of the above image, sheep sat guarding the tower.
So in all, the Tower Hill walk weaves together natural beauty, historical intrigue, and dog-friendly fun. This trail promises a sensory feast for your four-legged friend. So, lace up your walking shoes and get ready to take in stunning Abergele views and a glimpse into the past.
