Is Happy Valley, Llandudno dog friendly?


It sure is!

local and looking for a dog friendly walk? Then why not visit Happy Valley Gardens on the pier side of the Great Orme! And because of the proximity, it's easy for you to have a stroll down the pier and visit Happy Valley all in one go.


Walking level: low, but you can make it switch it up by going upwards or around

Time to walk: depends on how you’re feeling. Happy Garden’s itself doesn’t take long but it’s a nice place to stop and chill

Busyness: Low in winter, high in summer

Parking – There is paid for parking at the bottom of happy valley (Happy Valley Rd, Llandudno LL30 2ND). Happy valley is easy to walk up to no matter where you park in Llandudno though. Facilities – public toilets and a cafe

On or off lead walk – We would recommend dogs stay on lead for this one

About Happy Valley Gardens

Happy Valley Garden's was created in the 1900s, it has a beautiful and extensive collection of plants, and is simply lovely to stroll through or stop for a picnic.

Apart from plants it now has a cafe, play ground and stone circle. And there are grass verges where you can sit and take in its calming atmosphere.

While exploring the gardens, make sure you snap some photos of your pooch with the different Alice and Wonderland carvings that are dotted around.


Why does Llandudno have so many Alice and Wonderland carvings?

Well, it's believed Lewis Carroll wrote the book while on a visit to Llandudno. He stayed on the West Shore of Llandudno, with family friends and was inspired by a young girl called Alice. Sadly the building no longer exists.



Make it a bigger great orme dog walk

If you’re feeling adventerous, why stop there? From Happy Valley Gardens you can go up hill to the ski lodge, toboggan and explore other parts of the Great Orme. Or if you want a longer walk, you can literally walk around it!


Are the Llandudno Orme cable cars dog friendly?

If you'd like to go even higher up the orme (to the summit) you can catch the cable car from this area too. The Great Orme Cable Cars Llandudno are dog friendly, however it is worth noting that many dog can find the experience stressful, and you can drive up to the summit, or if you’re feel like a giving those legs a good stretch you can walk up.



Top tip

On your way up to the upper part of Happy Valley (towards the ski lodge), why not take a look at the cave nick named 'elephant cave'?
