A dog friendly walk near Conwy

Dog Friendly North Wales visits Conwy Mountain

Mynydd Y Dref (Conwy Mountain) is a great walking spot and a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. With its beautiful views and tranquil atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot for those looking to experience some of Wales’ natural beauty with their four-legged in tow.

Just one view from Mynydd y Drew - it really doesn’t do it justice though

Walking level: We would say a mid-level walk, there are steep inclines and rocky areas but it all depends on your comfort level (we saw a sign of advice at the entrance, see the photo further down)

Time to walk: The circular walk is 2hrs to 2hrs 30

Busyness: Low in winter, high in summer

Parking: You can park in the town in a paid car park. There is a very small car park at the start of the walk (around 5 cars max) or you can find residential parking nearby (please remember to park respectfully for those that live there).

Other transport: You could get the bus or train into Conwy and walk to the starting point

Facilities: None, but the trail is only a 10 min walk from the edge of the Conwy castle wales, so you can easily access everything Conwy has to offer

On or off lead walk: It varies, so pay attention to signs about sheep and your comfort level with your dog being off lead on some of the pathways.

Address: Go to Mountain Road, LL32 8PU, Conwy (if driving, ideally, park up sooner and then walk to it) and there will be signs for the walk. See the image below for help.

Is Conwy Mountain dog friendly?

Conwy Mountain Walk is a dog friendly. For those looking for a bit of an adventure without going too far off the beaten track, it’s the ideal place to get some quality time with your four-legged friend. And if you’re like us, to take some time to sit, reflect and have a brew with a view (see photo).

Along the way, you’ll be treated to the sights of green pastures, rolling hills and lush vegetation. There are plenty of different smells and terrains to keep your pooch interested. We’ve heard - of which we plan to do - it’s especially a treat to watch the sunset over the mountains as the shadows stretch across the land.

Conwy Mountain is a dog friendly walk

The mountain trail is well-marked and easy to follow. Most dog walkers and hikers tend to take the circular trail which takes about two hours to complete however, some paths could take you further. So depending on how much of a walk you and your dog would like, how prepared you are and how adventurous you’re feeling you could easily keep going.

What's fantastic about this circular walk is its proximity to Conwy town. With it being just a 10 minute walk away from the town itself (yet somehow feeling like a totally different place), if you’re visiting for a break or simply looking to do more, you can enjoy everything else Conwy has to offer. We admit we love treating ourselves to a cake and a coffee (and ur dogs plenty of treats) in Conwy town when we’re finished.

All in all, Mynydd y Dref is an excellent place for a peaceful and reflective walk, with stunning views and plenty of time to contemplate the beauty of nature. Take your four-legged friend along and your camera – you won’t be disappointed.
